Annie Poon grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut. She studied painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York and worked in art galleries before becoming interested in animation. She now lives in Manhattan with her husband where she works as an independent animator. Inspiration for her shorts comes from a childhood habit of cutting out tiny paper characters use as toys. All of her films are created using a paper stop-motion technique. Her first collection of animations, entitled ‘The Paper Theater’, was released in 2004 and includes Runaway Bathtub, Paper Doll, Christmas Tree, Subway Story, The Roly Poly Pudding, and Tis the Night of Halloween. One of these shorts, Runaway Bathtub, was recently added to the library of New York's Museum of Modern Art.
In 2005 Mormon Artists Group Press published The Book of Visions, Poon’s most complex work to date. The project includes a ten-piece limited edition collector’s box set and lasts 12 minutes.
Annie has shown her work on television and in film festival venues including Nicktoons, Slamdance, the Brooklyn International Film Festival, the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, the San Diego International Children’s Film Festival, and BAM Kidsfest. Her current work in progress is entitled ‘Me Good, Me Bad’.
